All About Reiki

919526_awesome_sky.jpg Reiki is prounounced, “ray-key”, like a ray of sunshine and a door key. Reiki translated - Rei, meaning Universal ( as in coming from and guided by God, The Universe, The Universal Mind, All That Is, The Great Spirit, etc.). Ki, meaning life force ( as in energy that surrounds, and flows within all life). Reiki works to balance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of an individual, as it removes blockages to the internal flow of one’s energy, and enhances the body’s own healing process. It is an active and intuitive healing meditation that is done with the hands.

Unlike massage, a Reiki treatment is given while you are fully clothed. The hands of the practioner may be placed directly and gently upon or slightly above the body, in a specifically patterned sequence designed to cover all of the body’s vital organs.

Reiki is experienced differently by each individual. Some experience physical sensations such as heat coming from the practioner’s hands, a pleasant tingling, or perhaps a twinge of pain as tension is released. The Reiki may be working on a physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual level. Some people recall visual or thought memories and some become teary from the emotional release. Some become very relaxed and drift off to a peaceful sleep and if this happens you will still receive the healing energy you need. During or after the Reiki has been given, you will have an opportunity to discuss your experience of the healing session.

How Reiki works is best described by William Rand, in the book, The Spirit of Reiki, on page 69.  Because the ” Reiki is guided by the higher power, it knows exactly where the negative energy exists in the person’s subtle energy system. Reiki will usually flow to these areas where it changes the vibration of the negative Ki. This is done by raising the vibration until the negative Ki cannot hold on to the area it is attached to and is released. Other times, the negative Ki may be reprogrammed by the Reiki energy and transformed into positive Ki which restores and maintains health. On a deeper level, Reiki can and often does reprogram the person’s subconscious mind, releasing negative thoughts, feelings and memories and even balancing karma, all of which are responsible for creating negative energy, thus healing at the level of cause and creating permanent healing!”

There are different kinds of Reiki, each with different vibrations and effects. There are four qualities they all have in common and they are:

1. The ability to perform Reiki comes from receiving an atunement, rather than developing the ability over time through the use of meditation or other exercises.

2. All Reiki techniques are passed from teacher to student through an attunement process, starting with the one who first channeled the technique.

3. Reiki does not require that one guides the energy with the mind, as it is guided by the higher power that knows what vibration or combination of vibrations are needed.

4. Reiki can do no harm.

Many people in Japan and in the United States, have received their attunements from the Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage. Since 1983 new Reiki techniques have been channeled such as Karuna Reiki, Rainbow Reiki, and many more.
